Presentation

The Cave Canem company was established in Toulouse in August 2000 and has been nurturing the work of Philippe Combes since then. The company's activity focuses on two complementary axes. On the one hand the production and the distribution of choreographic pieces, either in the settings of traditional places such as frontal theatre stages, or in special settings such as museums, waste land or in the open air; on the other hand the development of encounters with different publics like public rehearsals, and choreographic workshops.

These choreographic pieces : “Dromos 1 & 2” in 2006 and 2007, "Trio" in 2006, “X” in 2005, “Magma” in 2004, “Asterios” and “L-Dopa” in 2003, are performed in France and abroad on the occasion of various collaborations.

The encounters

The company is developing its encounters with the public. Its main catchment area is that of Colomiers, with the development of a partnership :

Public rehearsals

Anxious to share its creative process, the company organizes encounters during rehearsals open to the public. Encounters can also take place during performances of the pieces, thereby giving the public an opportunity to see the inner workings of Cave Canem's work.

Advanced lessons and workshops

Several programmes of advanced lessons are scheduled each season. Led by members of the company, the lessons demonstrate all the contemporary dance techniques the dancers have acquired.

Neighbourhood events

The company is involved in the urban environment in a variety of forms, nurturing its desire to take dance beyond its traditional setting of theatres, either by performing small forms of choreography (“Pour Mai" and "Trio") or by setting up workshops aimed at children (processus "Danse à l’école"/”Dance at school”) or through dance workshops proposed at different dance teaching organisms.

Such events are also conducted in the Midi-Pyrénées region, in partnership with ADDA (Development Association of Arts) from Haute-Garonne’s, Tarn’s and Lot’s departements, and with the Schools Academic Inspections. In the town of Colomiers, these workshops are also organized with the pupils of Colomiers's Municipal Centre of Arts.
